 TECO Coal Support Groups and Programs
Engineering
Engineering departments at TECO Coal and each of its subsidiaries provide a wide variety of services associated with permitting and surveying. They also collect various types of samples, such as coal, water, and soil for evaluation and compliance testing. Our engineers utilize the latest in hi-tech instrumentation, such as the Global Positioning System (GPS) for coordinate location and have additional responsibilities that include the maintenance of permit records as well as other production support documentation for our subsidiary operations.
Testing Laboratories
Full service in-house laboratories are located at each TECO Coal operating subsidiary. Staffed with highly trained and experienced personnel, these facilities are equipped with state-of-the-art laboratory testing equipment. Each laboratory provides support to our operations, engineering, quality, and sales departments by providing timely and accurate test results for the analysis of coal, water and soil. Testing processes and procedures are documented as per our ISO-9002 Quality Management System.
Reclamation
As part of being a good corporate citizen, reclamation of disturbed land is of the utmost importance. For this reason, full-time reclamation crews are employed to keep up with the demands of reclaiming disturbed areas. Reclamation crews use seed mixtures which have been thoroughly tested and proven on reclaimed areas. Plant species used in reclamation are either native to the area or are of the type that thrive in the climates where our operations are located. Our primary goals are to protect the environment, reclaim and improve mined areas and enhance wildlife habitat. This effort has not gone unnoticed as TECO Coal has been honored several times in the last decade, by the state of Kentucky and Tennessee for exceptional reclamation.
Safety and Environmental
TECO Coal has implemented and is strongly committed to maintaining a comprehensive compliance program. This program is based on sound business practices to ensure compliance and to prevent and detect potential or actual violations of safety and environmental law, rules, regulations and permit requirements. TECO Coal regards this approach as being essential to providing effective safety and environmental management services in order to foster company success. TECO Coal’s program has been implemented at TECO Coal Corporation and all its Operating Subsidiaries. The program fosters awareness of personal safety, accountability and environmental responsibilities for each employee. It is a partnership between Administration, Operations and the employees that provides a better means of reducing both personal and environmental accidents. Our ultimate goals are zero accidents and zero damage to the environment. This program establishes TECO Coal as a leader in the industry as a concerned and innovative company that places Safety and Environmental compliance as one of its highest priorities.
